WHAT TO EXPECT

Bordering the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is the first ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket.

It offers a new home for overtired elephants who have suffered from working long hours in the logging and tourism industry. They put the welfare of elephants first and do not offer bathing, rides, shows, mud bathing, trunk hugging, elephant kisses, sitting on or lying on the elephants, loud noisy groups, or people constantly crowding around the elephantsIf you think of an elephant living life in the forest surrounded by the sounds of nature then this is what they offer. Tours offer education, interaction and observation: Visitors enjoy an up-close encounter with our beautiful elephants during the feeding program, then walk with the elephants, stand back and observe as they roam, bathe, play, and socialise naturally, free from human touch. The aim is to give to elephants back their lives and their dignity, and in doing so, guests get to learn about how incredible the largest land mammal on earth truly is.

> Elephants move freely in the whole sanctuary.

> Discover how water is important for them.

> Observe Elephants in their natural environment.

>A real encounter full of authenticity.

I had a great time here. The tour guides were very knowledgeable about the elephants in their care and they seemed to be very caring towards the animals. The park is a very ethical place looking after rescued and retired elephants. You get a chance to feed some at the beginning but that's as close as they allow you to go for the elephants comfort.

Brilliant place with passionate and friendly staff, they are doing incredible work with old, handicapped and blind elephants they have rescued. Absolutely worth a visit and a much kinder experience for the elephants than other tourist activities such as trekking and such. Really opened my eyes to the treatment of these beautiful creatures in such industries. Got up close and personal with feeding the elephants, and then we were able to watch them bathe and splash around. As a bonus, lots of friendly cats and dogs that this place has adopted too, and the food was also incredible. Absolutely would recommend to everyone!read more

I had always wanted to visit a sanctuary and this trip is one I will treasure all my life. The encounters were extremely respectful of the elephants and the carers were all well trained, spoke good English and had lots of information to share. We feed two elephants and watched them frolic in the incredible habitat the sanctuary provides. I didn't realise the extent of torture working elephants are put through and everyone cried when we were shown on video, it opened all our minds to the cruel world these gorgeous creatures are exposed to for the sake of tourist attractions and logging/trekking. The elephants we met were rescued from these horrible people and let to live out their days in peace, all the money spent here goes straight back to the elephants and raising money to buy/rescue other elephants. I couldn't recommend this sanctuary enough!! If you are an animal lover, please don't support typical tourist attractions with elephants/tigers..they are seriously put through hell to do what they do. Places like these are where you want to visit.. save havens for these gorgeous animals! Thank you to Phuket elephant sanctuary for the amazing work you do. Sorry for the huge review, you touched my heart.read more

I have been back twice in a week. I love the activities with Elephants ( feed , mud bath and swim with them). Also they are doing good things , in saying that , the elephants look so healthy and happy. They rescued elephants too. Strongly recommend to book a tour with them! I had a lot of fun!!

Seems like one of the more ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket. Been to a few other ones previously and this one is the least intrusive of them. You don't get to ride them or bath with them but I think that is the point of the sanctuary, to let the elephant live without forcing them to go out of their way to entertain us. Currently there are 8 rescued elephant and hope to see more of them being rescued next time I come. The place is clean and the included veggie meal is awesome.read more

Beautiful animals!

There are no words that can describe what it’s like being in the presence of elephants who are happy, well-cared for & allowed to live as they should be. These beautiful animals deserve all the love that they receive.

This place was just incredible.

I went there with my girlfriend and we had a great time. The staff is very friendly and attentioned towards their elephants. My girlfriend said it was the best memory of her vacation. If you are in Phuket and want to see elephants then this place is the one you should visit. Not the poor elephants exploited as tourist toys on the beach.

Definitely worth it!

A little more pricey than other so called sanctuaries, but this one is truly an ethical one. No riding, no group bathing and no chains! Definitely worth every cent we paid. The staff was very friendly and clearly cared about the wellbeing of their elephants. It was a magical experience to see them in the wild.

Great experience.

The elephant experience itself was amazing. They look genuinely happy pottering about in the open space. I much prefer watching them from afar in the trees and water splashing around themselves. The staffs were all very informative and overall a really great experience.

Great experience!

Me and my friends wanted to see elephants while we were in Phuket, but we wanted to find a place where they would live free, not a place for tourists looking to ride the elephants. We enjoyed every moment spent at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. From the first welcome, and briefing about the elephant’s story, to making food for them, feeding them and observing them as they went for a bath. I wish there where more places like this one!
